When you’re in your host country, you will find that you will adapt more quickly if you limit your contact with your friends and family in the USA. You need to jump into your new culture with both feet, and not have one foot in the USA and the other in your host country.
- You’ll be warmly welcomed at the airport by your host family (and maybe a few other new friends and Rotarians!)
- You’ll attend high school
- You’ll learn to be an ambassador, sharing your own customs and traditions with your family and friends.
You’ll be challenged — in a good way — to reach beyond what you could imagine, as you change and adapt to a new culture and learn a new language. It may take a few months
